The Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (Fulbright TEA) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of States, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by IREX.

Fulbright TEA Program brings international teachers to the United States for a six-week program that offers academic seminars for professional development at a host university. The teachers will observe and share their expertise with teachers and students at the host university and at local primary and secondary schools.

3 grants are available for Malaysian secondary school teachers of English, English as a Foreign Language, Math, Science, and Social Studies, including Special Education teachers in those subjects

University Coursework:

Weekly Seminars: Teachers will participate in weekly seminars at their host university featuring presentations and discussions led by the university staff, faculty members, and invited educational experts. The academic seminars will focus on new teaching methodologies, curriculum development, lesson planning, and instructional technology training.

Participating teachers will be placed in groups of approximately 20 at U.S. university schools of education. U.S. host universities will be selected through a competitive process. They will be responsible for designing a specialized orientation and seminars for the teachers, and will ensure that each group has access to a variety of professional development and cultural activities. Fulbright TEA Fellows will be engaged in program related activities at least 35-40 hours per week.

U.S. School Placements:

Teachers will be placed in a U.S. secondary school during the U.S. program, where they will observe classes, co-teach, and share their expertise and information about their home countries and schools. Each Fulbright teacher will be paired with a U.S. partner educator at their assigned school to facilitate sharing of best practices between their teachers. Host university staff will identify schools and partner teachers near the university campus that are appropriate to each grantee’s teaching discipline(s).


• Be citizen of Malaysia
• Be current secondary-level, full-time teachers of English, English as a Foreign Language(EFL), math, science, or social studies, including special education teachers in those subjects at institutions serving primarily a local population are eligible for the program.
• Have earned a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
• Have completed at least five years of full-time teaching by the start of the program.
• Demonstrate a commitment to continue teaching after completion of program.
• Be proficient in written and spoken English.
• Must reside in Malaysia at the time of application.
• Have submitted a complete application.
Please note that this is an upper level university or graduate level academic program for practicing teachers. Educational administrators(such as representatives or officials of Ministry of Education) and school representatives who do not teach at least fifty percent of their time, full-time teachers, university faculty, private English Language tutors, and teachers from schools primarily serving expatriates are not eligible. Applicants must reside in the country of citizenship at the time of application and of program participation.
All candidates must have sufficient oral and written English language skills to take part in specialized seminars and give presentations in U.S. schools. Participation in the Fulbright TEA program is primarily open to teachers who are able to demonstrate English language proficiency have a minimum Toefl iBT score of 50.

Deadline: April 20, 2018. MACEE will recruit, interview and nominate outstanding teachers for the program. An independent panel based in Washington, D.C. will determine the final selection. Participants will be notified of their selection by September 2018. .Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.

Tentative Interview Time: End April/Early May 2018
English Language Testing: All candidates nominated for the program must take the Toefl test. MACEE will making the testing arrangements. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please answer all questions as fully as possible.
