FY 2018 International Leaders In Education Program-ILEP (Deadline: April 15, 2017)

Application deadline: April 15, 2017

The International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State (ECA/A/S/X) and is implemented by IREX (the international Research & Exchange Board), a Washington, DC based non-profit organization. ECA/A/S/X will provide the funding and overall policy guidance for this program.

ECA/A/S/X is planning to bring international secondary school teachers of English as a Foreign Language (EFL), Social Studies, Mathematics, Science and Special Education teachers in the these disciplines to the United States for a semester-long professional development program beginning in January 2018. Teachers will be placed in cohorts of about 22 teachers at three U.S. universities that will be selected through a competitive process.

The program will consist of academic seminars focusing on new teaching methodologies, leadership, curriculum development, lesson planning, teaching strategies and instructional technology training. All participants will receive a technology allowance to purchase laptops or other technology tools. Participants will audit two courses in the host university’s School or Department of Education and thus will be part of the general university community. The program will also include a practicum of at least 90 hours with a U.S. partner teacher in a U.S. secondary school near the host university to actively engage participants in the U.S. classroom environment. Cultural enrichment, mentoring and support will be provided to participants throughout the program.
