Graduate Action Plan

Following is some of the guidelines to assist you in applying for a graduate course in the U.S.

Step 1

Select and research field of study

 

Step 2   Research and shortlist universities

Check entrance requirements/selectivity Check accreditation and JPA approval Costs/Scholarships/Assistantships Application Deadlines Faculty research/number of graduate students in department / facilities Location, climate, family accommodation

Step 3   Take required exams

TOEFL - test of english required of all international students GMAT - for business or related fields GRE - for other fields (some school may require subject tests)

Step 4   Contact Schools / Applications

Locate addresses and contact person of schools and department Use internet for application forms and information Request information on financial aid, facilities and services

Step 5   Prepare the required documents

Transcripts/diplomas/syllabi (in English) MACEE translation service Lettres of recommendation/proposals for research Financial support documents/loans/financail aid forms Apply for passport

Step 6   Send application forms

Apply to 3-5 schools, send one set of documents to each admissions office Meet all application deadlines, enclose application fees Send a copy of application to the department, keep one for personal file

Step 7   Responses

Send letter of acceptance to the chosen school, confirm housing if living on campus If more than one acceptance, decline others and return I-20 / IAPP66 document

Step 8   Apply for Visa

Get Visa application and information packet from VFS I-20/IAP66 document needed from university or college Financial / affidavit of support documents needed Bring all documents for evaluation Apply for visa through VFS Make travel arrangements Register for Pre-Departure Orientation at MACEE
