About the Fulbright Program
Grants for U.S. Citizens

The objective of the grant is not only to enable the recipient to pursue a particular field of study but to develop leaders who can contribute to promoting better understanding between the U.S. and Malaysia.

In pursuit of the objectives of the above program, MACEE provides a number of grants under various program categories, to U.S. citizens, to conduct research, teach, or study in their respective host countries. Grants for U.S. citizens are available under the following program categories :


Fulbright University Affliation Program


The University Affiliation Program seeks to establish linkages between U.S. universities and institutions over-seas through the exchange of faculty and staff. These exchanges focus on the social sciences, humanities, business administration, and the arts.


Fulbright U.S. Visiting Scholar Program


The senior scholar Fulbright program offers grants for college and university faculty and independent scholars to conduct research or teach in Malaysia for a period of ten months. Every academic rank - from instructor to professor emeritus is represented. Untenured faculty and professionals outside academe from private and public sectors are encourage to apply.

Fulbright U.S. Student Research Program


Mature applicants from all degree levels will be considered. Applicants should be prepared to work with a minimum of supervision. Applications will be considered from all fields, and projects relating to the bilateral relationship between the U.S. and Malaysia are particularly encouraged. Sensitive topics may include certain aspects of environmental management, race relations, and religion. For questions on appropriate proposal topics, please E-mail: coffmanjm@macee.org.my


Fulbright/Vijayashanker Memorial Fellowships

 


The purpose of these grants is to immerse the students in Malaysian culture, and the grants are open to any projects focused on Malaysian society. This memorial fellowship has been made possible through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. S. Paramsothy, parents of Vijayashanker who lost his life in the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Applications are open to graduating seniors.


The Fulbright Specialist Program

 


The new program is designed as a shorter-term complement to traditional Fulbright Senior Scholar Program and will provide U.S. Academic Experts to Overseas Institutions for two to six weeks in response to requests from Fulbright Commissions and Public Affairs Sections. Central to the new program, however, is the original Fulbright purpose of advancing mutual understanding, establishing long-term cooperation and creating opportunities for institutional linkages.
