About
the Fulbright Program
Administration and Oversight
In October,
1999, the United States Information Agency formally ceased to exist.
It's functions and activities were absorbed into the U.S. Department
of State. While the same principles and personnel are involved in
the administration of the Fulbright program, formal administration
is now carried out by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
within the Department of State.
This bureau
continues to be responsible for a wide range of educational exchanges,
information, and cultural programs abroad. The J. William Fulbright
Foreign Scholarship Board, composed of 12 presidential appointees
drawn from academic, cultural and public life, was created by Congress
to establish policy guidelines for the educational exchange program. |
